Duplicate ContentFixes

Duplicate content rarely brings a penalty, but it splits your signals and confuses which page should rank. We find it and decide what to do with each case.

Duplicate Content Fixes: what the work involves

Duplication takes many forms. The same article reached through two URLs, product descriptions pasted from a supplier, city pages that differ only in the place name, printer-friendly versions, tag archives repeating post excerpts and syndicated copies on other domains. Google generally clusters duplicates and picks one to show, so the usual cost is not a punishment but dilution: links and engagement scatter across variants, and the version it picks may be the one you care about least.

We run a crawl with similarity detection, then combine it with Search Console data to see which duplicates actually compete for queries. Each cluster gets a verdict based on its cause. Technical duplicates are collapsed with redirects or canonicals. Genuinely overlapping pages are merged into one stronger resource. Templated pages are rewritten with distinct substance, or excluded from indexing if they cannot offer any. Cross-domain copies are handled with licensing agreements, canonicals or takedown requests as appropriate.

What we build

Core features

01

Similarity crawl

Detection of exact and near-duplicate pages using content hashing and similarity scoring, grouped into clusters for review.

02

Competing-page analysis

Search Console data showing which duplicate clusters split impressions between several URLs for the same query.

03

Technical duplicate resolution

Redirects, canonicals and parameter rules that fold URL-level copies into one preferred address.

04

Content consolidation

Combining overlapping pages into a single comprehensive version, with redirects from the retired ones and updated internal links.

05

Template rewrite guidance

Briefs for adding genuine unique information to repeated page types, so each earns a separate place in the index.

06

Syndication and scraper handling

Policies for republished content, covering canonical agreements with partners and responses to unauthorised copies.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Not all duplication is harmful

Legal notices, shared boilerplate and unavoidable specification text appear on many pages without harm. We focus on duplication that damages ranking pages, not on every repeated line.

Rewriting by spinning is worse

Automated paraphrasing produces thin, awkward text that adds no value and can be treated as spam. Genuinely different pages need genuinely different information.

Blocking duplicates can backfire

Disallowing duplicates in robots.txt prevents Google reading canonicals on them, so signals are not consolidated. Crawlable duplicates with correct directives usually work better.

Duplicate Content Fixes FAQ

Common questions, answered

Does duplicate content cause a Google penalty?

Normally not. Google groups duplicates and shows one. The harm is diluted signals and the wrong version ranking. Deliberate large-scale copying to manipulate results is different, and can attract action.

How much similarity is too much?

There is no threshold. What matters is whether each page offers a distinct answer. We review clusters by intent and purpose, since pages with similar text but different purposes may justify separate URLs.

What about supplier descriptions for products?

Priority products should receive original descriptions. For a large catalogue we prioritise by demand and margin, and make sure the remainder are at least clearly structured and not competing with each other.

Can duplicates on other sites hurt us?

Copies elsewhere can outrank you if their site has more authority. We check how widely content is copied, ask for removal or canonicals where possible, and strengthen the original with clear authorship.
