IT Helpdesk BotDevelopment

Handle the repetitive tickets, from password resets to software access, in chat, and give your IT team clean tickets for everything else.

IT Helpdesk Bot Development: what the work involves

Small IT teams drown in the basics. Someone is locked out, the VPN will not connect, a new joiner needs accounts, a printer is offline. Each issue arrives by a different route, with a vague description, and the first ten minutes go to asking what exactly is wrong. Skilled engineers become a switchboard, and project work, security patches and documentation are always pushed to next week.

DevKey builds an IT assistant that meets people in Teams, Slack or email. It asks the right diagnostic questions, searches your runbooks, and walks users through fixes. For approved actions, such as unlocking an account or adding someone to a group, it calls your identity and ticketing systems with an approval step where policy demands one. Unresolved issues become well-formed tickets with the device, error and steps already tried, and urgent security reports skip the bot and page the on-call engineer.

What we build

Core features

01

Guided troubleshooting

The assistant asks targeted questions and walks users through your documented steps for common faults, adapting to their answers.

02

Runbook search

Internal articles and past resolved tickets are indexed, so the bot can reuse what your team already knows.

03

Approved self-service actions

Password resets, group changes and licence assignments are executed through identity tools with identity verification and approval rules.

04

Ticket creation with context

Unsolved issues open a ticket pre-filled with user, device, error text, screenshots and diagnostics, ready for an engineer.

05

Incident awareness

If many users report the same symptom, the bot recognises the pattern and informs them of a known outage instead of creating duplicates.

06

Security report fast lane

Phishing and lost-device reports bypass the usual flow and notify the on-call security contact immediately.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Account takeover risk

An assistant that resets passwords is an attractive target for social engineering. We require strong verification, such as multi-factor confirmation, rate limits and audit logs, and keep privileged accounts off-limits.

Least-privilege tool access

The bot's service account should do only what is needed. We scope permissions narrowly, separate read and write roles, and require human approval for high-impact actions.

Bad instructions are worse than none

A wrong troubleshooting step can make a problem worse. Guidance is drawn from reviewed runbooks, and the bot offers escalation early when the user's situation does not match known patterns.

IT Helpdesk Bot Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Which tickets can it actually resolve?

Repeatable ones: password and MFA help, access requests, software how-tos and known connectivity fixes. Hardware faults and unfamiliar problems still need an engineer, but arrive with better information.

Can it integrate with our ticketing tool?

Yes, with tools that provide APIs, such as Jira Service Management, Freshservice, Zendesk and ServiceNow. We map fields and categories so tickets look like those your team creates today.

Is it safe to let it reset passwords?

Only with safeguards: verified identity, MFA, limits and logging, and never for privileged accounts. If your security policy does not allow it, the bot can guide users to the official self-service portal instead.

How do we train it on our environment?

We ingest your runbooks and resolved tickets, review them with your team, and fix gaps. Ongoing logs show unanswered questions, which become new articles and make the assistant steadily more useful.
