Microfinance SoftwareDevelopment

Loan origination, repayment schedules and field collections for a lender whose borrowers are many, small and spread across villages.

Microfinance Software Development: what the work involves

A microfinance institution makes thousands of small loans, and its health depends on repayment discipline. Field officers collect cash weekly or monthly, borrowers form groups, and each loan has instalments, penalties and guarantors. When this is tracked in spreadsheets, delinquent accounts are noticed late, collection receipts are not reconciled with deposits, and the board cannot see portfolio quality without a manual consolidation exercise.

DevKey builds microfinance software around the loan lifecycle. Applications are appraised and approved with defined authority limits, disbursement generates a repayment schedule, and officers record collections on a phone, even offline, so branch managers can reconcile cash daily. Overdue loans are aged automatically, and management reports show portfolio at risk, disbursement against target and officer performance, with every change logged for audit.

What we build

Core features

01

Borrower and group profiles

Identity, household, business and guarantor details, plus group membership and joint-liability arrangements, kept in one record.

02

Loan products and schedules

Configure products with tenor, frequency, rate method and fees, and generate instalment schedules automatically on disbursement.

03

Field collection app

Officers record repayments against assigned borrowers on a phone, with receipts, and sync when a connection is available.

04

Arrears ageing and follow-up

Overdue loans are bucketed by days past due, with lists for officers and escalation to managers as accounts age.

05

Approval workflow

Applications move from officer to branch manager to credit committee according to loan size, with comments and decisions recorded.

06

Portfolio and donor reports

Outstanding portfolio, portfolio at risk, recovery and officer productivity reports exported in the layouts your funders request.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Cash handling by officers

Money collected in the field must reach the branch intact. We reconcile each officer's day, require deposit confirmation and flag differences with a trail showing who recorded what.

Regulatory and donor reporting

Requirements vary by regulator and funder. We build to the report formats you provide and do not claim compliance on your behalf, which remains your institution's responsibility.

Migration of live loans

Moving active loans mid-cycle needs care. We load outstanding principal, paid instalments and dates, then reconcile totals to your ledger before anyone collects in the new system.

Microfinance Software Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Can field officers work offline?

Yes. The collection app keeps assigned borrowers and schedules on the phone, records repayments without a connection and syncs when signal returns. Conflicts are resolved by rules we agree up front so nothing is double counted.

Does it support group lending?

Yes. Groups and centres can be modelled with joint liability, group meetings and collective collection sheets, alongside individual loans, so one portfolio view covers both lending methods your institution uses.

Can it calculate flat and reducing balance interest?

Yes. Loan products can be set to flat or declining balance with your chosen fees, grace period and penalty rules. We test schedules against worked examples from your finance team before go-live.

How is data protected?

Access is role-based, sensitive borrower fields are visible only to those who need them, every edit is logged and the database is backed up on a schedule we set with you, with restoration tested.
