Pharmacy Management SoftwareDevelopment

Counter billing, batch-wise stock and expiry control for retail and hospital pharmacies, built for the speed a queue of customers demands.

Pharmacy Management Software Development: what the work involves

A pharmacy handles thousands of look-alike products where the difference between two strips can be a batch number or an expiry date. Staff must find an item by brand or generic name, sell loose tablets from a strip, honour a prescription, and still avoid selling expired stock. Notebook-and-calculator practice leads to expired medicine discovered on shelves, purchase prices forgotten, and no clear picture of margins by supplier.

DevKey builds pharmacy software on a batch-level inventory model: every purchase creates lots with expiry and cost, and every sale draws from the nearest-expiry lot. This is the same thinking behind our own Clinic Pharmacy desktop product. Billing runs as an offline-first Electron app on SQLite for speed and resilience, syncing to a central database for multi-outlet owners. Barcode scanning, thermal receipts, supplier ledgers and a drug master with generic names are included.

What we build

Core features

01

Drug master and generics

Brands, generic salts, strengths, forms and pack sizes, so staff can search by either name and suggest substitutes when something is out.

02

Batch and expiry stock

Each lot carries its expiry, cost and supplier, sells nearest-expiry first, and appears on a rolling expiry report before it becomes a loss.

03

Fast counter billing

Scan or search, sell by pack or loose unit, apply discounts within limits, and print receipts on thermal paper in seconds.

04

Purchasing and supplier ledger

Purchase orders, goods receipt against supplier invoices, return-to-supplier credits and payment tracking per distributor.

05

Controlled and prescription items

Flag items that need a prescription, record prescriber and patient details for them, and keep a register that staff can print for inspection.

06

Margin and reorder reports

Profit by item and supplier, fast and slow movers, and suggested reorder quantities from recent sales.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Expired and near-expiry handling

Expiry is the pharmacy's main loss. We block sale of expired lots outright, warn on near-expiry, and give you a return-or-write-off workflow with a visible cost.

Loose-unit conversion

Selling tablets from a strip means conversions between pack, strip and tablet. Errors here corrupt stock. We model units explicitly and test the conversions with your real products.

Regulatory records

Drug regulations require records for certain categories. We provide registers and reports in a printable form, but rules differ by licence type, so confirm what your inspector expects.

Pharmacy Management Software Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

How is this related to your Clinic Pharmacy product?

Clinic Pharmacy is our ready-made desktop product for small dispensaries. If its features fit, you can start there. Custom pharmacy development suits chains, distributors or unusual workflows that a fixed product cannot cover.

Can it handle several branches?

Yes. Each branch bills offline from its own database and syncs to a central server, so the owner sees consolidated sales, stock and expiry across outlets, with inter-branch transfers recorded as documents.

Does it track expiry dates automatically?

Every purchased lot is stored with its expiry. The system sells the earliest-expiring stock first, refuses expired lots, and lists items expiring within a window you choose, so returns can be arranged in time.

Can we import our medicine list?

Yes. We can load an existing item list from a spreadsheet or old software, clean duplicate names, add generic mappings, and set opening batches after a physical count. Accuracy at opening is worth taking time over.
