Point of Care SoftwareDevelopment

Software that lets clinicians record vitals, notes and orders at the bedside or chairside, in seconds, with every entry attributed and auditable.

Point of Care Software Development: what the work involves

Point of care means the patient is in front of the clinician, and software must fit into that moment. If recording a blood pressure or a medication means walking to a desk, entries are batched, remembered wrongly or written on paper to be typed later. The software has to be quick, work on a tablet or a phone, and tolerate a hospital corridor where wifi is weak.

DevKey builds point of care tools as focused applications that sit alongside a hospital or clinic system. Nurses and doctors identify the patient by barcode or search, record vitals, medication administration, notes and orders on a tablet, and see results as they arrive. Every entry carries the user and time, access is limited by role, and offline capture syncs when the network returns, with clear marking of anything not yet uploaded.

What we build

Core features

01

Patient identification

Find a patient by wristband barcode, MRN or name, with a clear confirmation step to avoid recording against the wrong person.

02

Vitals and observations

Fast entry of pulse, pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation and charts, with values outside set ranges highlighted for attention.

03

Medication administration record

Show what is due, record what was given, by whom and when, and note refusals or delays with a reason.

04

Notes and orders at the bedside

Clinical notes and requests for tests or services can be entered on the spot instead of being transcribed later.

05

Results and alerts

Lab and imaging results appear against the patient as available, with notifications for results marked urgent.

06

Offline capture with sync

Data is saved on the device when connectivity drops and uploaded in order later, with visible indicators for pending entries.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Patient safety

A wrong-patient or wrong-dose error is serious. We design confirmation steps, avoid ambiguous defaults and test workflows with clinicians, while clinical decisions remain with qualified staff.

Health data privacy

Records are highly sensitive. We apply role-based access, session timeouts on shared devices, encrypted storage and a log of every view and change.

Integration with the main record

A bedside tool is only as useful as the record it feeds. We scope the interface with your HMS vendor, using its API or an agreed standard such as HL7 or FHIR where it supports one.

Point of Care Software Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Does this replace our hospital management system?

No. It is a bedside capture layer that feeds your existing system, or a lighter standalone tool for smaller clinics. We scope the connection to your current vendor before design starts.

Does it work if wifi is weak on the ward?

Yes. Entries are saved on the device and synced when connection returns, with clear markers for what has not yet uploaded. Staff can keep working through dead spots without re-entering anything.

How is patient data protected?

With role-based access, encrypted storage and transport, automatic logout on idle devices and a full audit log of who viewed or changed each record. We also help you set retention and backup rules.

Can nurses use their own phones?

That is possible but needs policy decisions about device security. Many hospitals prefer managed tablets. We can support either, and we recommend limiting what is stored locally on any personal device.
