Android AppDevelopment

In Pakistan, Android is where most customers are. A native Android app has to run on cheap handsets, old versions and patchy data, not just on a flagship.

Android App Development: what the work involves

Android holds the large majority of smartphones in Pakistan and much of South Asia, spread across thousands of device models, screen sizes, memory limits and manufacturer skins. The business challenge is reach with reliability: an app that works well on a recent Pixel but stutters on a budget phone loses most of its potential audience before it has a chance.

DevKey builds native Android apps in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, using modern architecture components, Room for local storage and WorkManager for dependable background tasks. We test on a pool of real low-end and mid-range phones, optimise start-up and memory, and handle manufacturer battery restrictions that silently kill background work. Releases go through Play Console with staged rollouts and monitoring.

What we build

Core features

01

Jetpack Compose interfaces

Material-based, responsive screens with theming, dark mode and accessibility, and correct Urdu right-to-left layouts.

02

Low-end device optimisation

Profiling of memory, start-up and scrolling on budget phones, with image sizing and caching that suits small RAM and weak CPUs.

03

Reliable background work

WorkManager, foreground services and exact alarms for sync, tracking and reminders that survive aggressive manufacturer battery settings.

04

Offline-first data layer

Room databases, repository patterns and retry queues so the app remains useful with no signal and syncs cleanly later.

05

Hardware and system integrations

NFC, Bluetooth, camera, biometrics, SMS retrieval for OTP and device admin or kiosk modes where a business case requires them.

06

Play Store release and monitoring

Signed bundles, staged rollouts, Play policy declarations, ANR and crash tracking and regular updates for new Android versions.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Device fragmentation

Behaviour changes between manufacturers and Android versions. We maintain a device test matrix covering Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Infinix and Tecno rather than trusting an emulator.

Play policy and permissions

Google tightly controls background location, SMS access, accessibility services and data safety declarations. We design to these rules to avoid suspension or review delays.

Installs outside the Play Store

Some users sideload apps or lack Play services. We plan for APK distribution where needed and avoid hard dependencies that break on devices without Google services.

Android App Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Why choose native Android over Flutter or React Native?

Native suits apps that rely on deep system features, background services or maximum performance on low-end hardware. Cross-platform suits teams wanting both stores from one codebase. We weigh your features and audience.

How do you test across so many devices?

We use a set of physical phones representing popular local brands and memory tiers, plus cloud device farms for wider coverage. Real budget devices reveal problems that emulators never show.

Can the app run on very old Android versions?

We choose a minimum version using real audience data. Supporting very old releases limits modern features and adds testing, so we agree a floor that covers most of your actual users.

Do you handle Play Store publishing?

Yes. We prepare the listing, data safety form and signed release, run staged rollouts and respond to policy questions. The Play Console account remains yours.
