Delivery Rider AppDevelopment
The rider's side of delivery: accept a job, navigate, hand over, collect cash and see earnings, on a phone that lasts the shift.
Delivery Rider App Development: what the work involves
Riders are the part of delivery that customers meet, and the part most businesses build last. A weak rider app means wrong pins, missed handovers, cash that never reaches the till and riders who quit because the app drains the battery by lunchtime. Dispatchers meanwhile phone each rider to ask where they are.
We build the rider app as a focused tool. Riders go online, receive job offers with pickup, drop and earnings, accept within a short window and follow a step-by-step status: arrived, picked up, delivered. Location is sent in an adaptive, battery-aware way, navigation hands off to a maps app, and handover captures OTP, photo or cash amount. Dispatch and settlement happen in an admin console.
Core features
Job offers with timeout
Offers show distance, payout and drop area, with an accept timer and automatic passing to the next rider.
Status flow and navigation
A simple arrived, picked up and delivered sequence, with one-tap hand-off to Google Maps or another navigation app.
Battery-aware tracking
Location updates adapt to speed and movement, and drop to a trickle when the rider waits at a restaurant.
Proof of delivery
OTP, photo or signature at handover, plus a reason code for failed attempts such as customer unreachable.
Cash and earnings ledger
Cash collected, tips, per-order pay and deductions are listed daily, with a settlement screen at shift end.
Shift and document management
Riders go on and off shift, upload licence and vehicle papers and see when a document is about to expire.
What we get right before launch
Background location policy
Riders need tracking with the screen off. Google and Apple require a prominent disclosure and a justified use, and we use a foreground service on Android so the system does not kill it.
Cheap phones and manufacturer battery rules
Some Android brands aggressively close background apps. We guide riders through the battery-optimisation settings and test on the handsets your riders actually carry.
Cash accountability
Rider cash is a trust issue. Daily reconciliation, running balances and mismatch alerts protect the business and let honest riders prove they handed over the right sum.

Common questions, answered
Can one rider app work for several kinds of business?
Yes. A rider can be assigned food, parcels or grocery jobs from the same dispatch system, with each job type showing its own handover steps and payment handling.
How do riders get paid?
Earnings per delivery, incentives and deductions are calculated in the ledger. Payouts happen by bank, wallet or cash settlement on a schedule you choose, with a statement riders can check themselves.
Will it drain the rider's battery?
Any tracking app uses power, but adaptive sampling, efficient maps usage and a lightweight interface keep it manageable through a shift. We test on cheap handsets and advise on power banks or mounts.
Can riders work in areas with poor signal?
The app caches the active job, queues status updates and uploads them when signal returns. Dispatch sees the last known position flagged as stale rather than showing a rider who has vanished.
