Google Search ConsoleSetup

Search Console is the only first-party view of how Google sees your site. We configure it properly and teach your team what each report is for.

Google Search Console Setup: what the work involves

Many sites have Search Console attached but unused, verified on only one protocol variant, with an expired verification token or owned by a former agency. Others have no property at all and discover major problems, such as an accidental noindex, only after traffic drops. Without correct setup, you lose the manual action notices, indexing reports, query data and Core Web Vitals field data that explain why performance moves. The data also starts accumulating only from the moment a property exists, so delays cannot be recovered.

We create a domain property that covers every protocol and subdomain, plus URL-prefix properties where segmented reporting helps, and verify them through DNS so the setup survives site rebuilds. We submit sitemaps, set up correct user permissions, link GA4 and, where appropriate, BigQuery export for long-term data retention. We then build a Looker Studio view of the key reports and run a baseline review that records current clicks, impressions and issues, giving you a reference point for everything that follows.

What we build

Core features

01

Domain property verification

DNS-based verification covering all protocol and subdomain variants, which survives redesigns and hosting changes.

02

Sitemap and settings configuration

Submission of segmented sitemaps, preferred settings and checks that nothing in the property reports unexpected errors on day one.

03

Access and ownership cleanup

Documented owners and users with the right permission levels, and removal of stale accounts so control does not depend on one person.

04

GA4 and data linking

Connecting Search Console to GA4 and exporting to BigQuery where useful, so search and behaviour data can be analysed together over time.

05

Baseline snapshot

A recorded starting point for impressions, clicks, indexed pages and Core Web Vitals, which later work is measured against.

06

Team training

A short walkthrough of the Performance, Indexing and Experience reports, and how to read manual action and security alerts.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Data is not retroactive

Search Console shows only a limited history and starts collecting when a property is verified. Setting up late means permanent gaps, so verify before launch whenever possible.

Sampling and anonymised queries

Reports hide rare queries and cap rows. For large sites, API or BigQuery exports give fuller data, though still not every search term.

Numbers differ from analytics

Search Console counts impressions and clicks in search, while GA4 counts sessions on your site. They will not match, and we explain what each one measures.

Google Search Console Setup FAQ

Common questions, answered

Why do I need Search Console if I have analytics?

Analytics shows what visitors do on your site. Search Console shows how Google finds and displays it, including queries, indexing problems and manual actions, none of which analytics can reveal.

Domain property or URL-prefix property?

A domain property covers every variant of your site and is the best default. URL-prefix properties are useful extras for tracking a subfolder or a particular section separately.

How long before data appears?

Basic performance data usually appears within a few days of verification, and builds up from there. Some reports take longer. History before verification is unavailable, which is why early setup matters.

Can you take over a property owned by someone else?

We can help you regain ownership, often through DNS verification, or be added as a user by an existing owner. If neither is possible, we create a new property and start collecting fresh data.
