ID Card OCRSolutions
Turn photos of identity cards into validated, structured records through an API or mobile capture flow, with a correction screen for the hard cases.
ID Card OCR Solutions: what the work involves
Front-desk staff, branch officers and field agents still type identity details from a card into a form while the customer waits. Digits get transposed, names are misspelt, and photos taken on a phone are tilted or glared. Each error later causes a failed lookup, a rejected application or a registry mismatch that someone must untangle by phone.
DevKey builds an extraction service tuned for the documents you actually see. It detects and straightens the card, identifies its type, reads the printed fields in English and Urdu, and applies format checks such as number length, date logic and front-to-back agreement. The result returns as JSON with a confidence value for every field. A lightweight web or mobile screen lets staff correct low-confidence values before the record is saved, and corrections are collected to improve future accuracy.
Core features
Card detection and deskewing
The service finds the card edges, corrects perspective and rotation, and rejects frames that are too dark or glared before extraction begins.
Bilingual field reading
Printed English and Urdu fields are captured, and name transliteration is handled consistently so records match across systems.
Format and logic validation
National number patterns, expiry and birth date plausibility and cross-field consistency are checked after reading, catching many silent misreads.
Per-field confidence scores
Each value comes with a score and a bounding box, letting your app highlight just the uncertain fields instead of asking users to retype everything.
Capture SDK for web and mobile
A camera component provides live framing hints, and a fallback upload path handles gallery photos, so the same backend works for kiosks and apps.
Redaction and secure handling
Images can be masked or discarded after extraction, with only the fields you need persisted, which narrows your exposure if a database leaks.
What we get right before launch
Document variety and fakes
OCR reads text; it does not prove a card is genuine. Older card versions, laminated glare and damaged prints reduce accuracy, and tamper detection is a separate, limited capability we describe honestly.
Legal basis for collecting and storing IDs
Storing identity images carries obligations. We help you capture only what is necessary, define retention periods, and log access, and your legal advisor confirms the policy against local rules.
On-device versus cloud processing
Cloud OCR is easier to maintain but sends images off-site. On-device or self-hosted models keep data local but need more tuning. We compare latency, accuracy and privacy for your situation.

Common questions, answered
Which ID types can it read?
Common Pakistani identity cards, passports and driving licences are typical starting points, and we can add other documents given samples. Each type needs its own validation rules and testing.
What accuracy can we expect?
It varies with image quality and card condition, so we avoid quoting a figure. We measure field-level accuracy on your real photos and design the correction screen around the fields that fail most.
Can it run without sending images to the cloud?
Yes, using self-hosted open-source models on your server or on-device. Accuracy on difficult images may be somewhat lower than top commercial services, and we benchmark both options before you choose.
Does it detect forged cards?
Only to a limited degree. We can flag inconsistencies such as invalid formats or edited fonts, but robust fraud detection needs additional verification with the issuing authority or a specialist provider.
How is pricing determined?
By the document types, whether you need an API only or capture apps too, hosting choice and any integrations. Per-image provider fees, if you use a cloud OCR, are separate and we explain them upfront.
