Accounting Practice Management SoftwareDevelopment

A workflow system for accounting and audit firms to run client engagements, deadlines and document chasing from one place.

Accounting Practice Management Software Development: what the work involves

An accounting firm sells recurring work to many clients, and every client has its own calendar of returns, closings and statutory filings. Partners track this in a spreadsheet, staff chase missing documents over WhatsApp, and when a senior leaves, nobody is sure what stage each file has reached. Time is lost to asking where things are, and hours worked on fixed-fee clients are never measured, so profitability stays a guess.

DevKey builds practice management software around the engagement. A client record holds its entities, contacts and service plan, and recurring jobs are generated with due dates, checklists and assigned preparers and reviewers. A request portal lets clients upload what is needed, time entries show the real effort per client, and a partner dashboard shows work in progress, overdue items and utilisation by staff member.

What we build

Core features

01

Client and entity register

Companies, individuals, directors and contacts are linked in one record, along with registration details and the services you provide.

02

Recurring engagement templates

Define standard jobs such as monthly bookkeeping or annual audit, with steps and deadlines generated automatically each period.

03

Review and sign-off stages

Work moves from preparer to reviewer to partner, with notes at each stage and a record of who approved the file.

04

Client document requests

Send a list of needed items, let clients upload them through a secure link, and see which requests are still outstanding.

05

Time and fee profitability

Staff log hours by client and job, and fee agreements are compared with effort so under-priced engagements become visible.

06

Deadline dashboard

A single view of what is due this week across every client, filterable by partner, staff member or type of work.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Segregating client data

Staff should see only the clients they work on. We apply assignment-based access, keep an audit log, and separate working papers from documents shared with the client.

Getting staff to log time

Time tracking fails when it is tedious. We provide a quick weekly timesheet and a timer, and avoid forcing detail that staff will fill with guesses.

Relationship with accounting software

Your clients may use various bookkeeping tools. We keep practice management separate from the ledger and link out where an interface exists, rather than rebuilding accounts.

Accounting Practice Management Software Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Is this an accounting package?

No. It manages the firm's own work: clients, jobs, deadlines, documents, time and fees. Clients' books stay in whatever accounting tool they use, and we can add links or exports where that helps.

Can clients send documents through the system?

Yes. Each request creates a secure upload link for the client, files land in the correct engagement folder and the checklist updates, which replaces chasing attachments across email and chat groups.

Can it create recurring jobs automatically?

Yes. Templates generate each month's, quarter's or year's tasks with deadlines and assignees, so routine work appears on schedule without a partner or manager having to remember to open it.

Can partners see staff workload?

Yes. A workload view shows assigned tasks, hours logged and upcoming deadlines for each team member, helping partners rebalance before someone is overloaded and a filing date is at risk.
