Data WarehouseDevelopment
One clean, historical store that consolidates data from your operational systems, so analysis does not depend on exports and guesswork.
Data Warehouse Development: what the work involves
Operational systems are built to record transactions quickly, not to answer questions across years and departments. Sales sit in one database, finance in another, and the website in a third, each with its own customer IDs and calendar. Asking how a customer's behaviour changed across channels turns into weeks of joins and manual fixes. A data warehouse exists to hold a consistent, integrated copy of that history for analysis.
DevKey designs the warehouse from the questions the business needs answered. We identify sources, model facts and dimensions, build extract and load pipelines with scheduling and monitoring, and reconcile warehouse totals to the source systems so numbers can be trusted. Slowly changing details such as a customer's old address are preserved, and the result feeds dashboards, reports and later machine-learning work without burdening the live applications.
Core features
Source and question mapping
We list each source system, the entities it holds and the business questions the warehouse must answer, then prioritise what to load first.
Dimensional model
Facts such as sales and dimensions such as customer, product and date are modelled to make analysis fast and easy to understand.
Scheduled extract and load pipelines
Automated jobs pull incremental changes from each source, transform them and load them, with retries and failure notifications.
Identity matching
Customers and products that appear under different codes in different systems are matched into one master record, with exceptions queued for review.
Reconciliation checks
Automatic tests compare warehouse totals with the sources after every load and flag differences before anyone reports from bad data.
Historical preservation
Changes to prices, addresses and hierarchies are kept with effective dates so last year's report can be reproduced exactly.
What we get right before launch
Scope creep
Warehouses fail when they try to load everything. We deliver in slices, starting with the sources behind the most valuable questions, and add more only after the first slice is trusted.
Personal data
Copying customer data multiplies the risk. We minimise fields loaded, mask what analysts do not need and apply the same access rules as the source systems.
Ongoing pipeline ownership
Source systems change and pipelines break. We include monitoring, documentation and a runbook, and agree who maintains the jobs after launch.

Common questions, answered
Do we need a data warehouse or just better reports?
If your data lives in one system and its reports are adequate, you probably do not. A warehouse earns its place when you must combine several systems, keep long history or protect production from heavy analysis.
How long before we see value?
We aim to deliver a first slice, covering one or two sources and a handful of key questions, early, rather than waiting for a full build. You can use that slice while later sources are added.
Can it include data from spreadsheets and APIs?
Yes. Besides databases, pipelines can read files, cloud applications and web APIs. Spreadsheet sources need agreed templates and validation, because manual files are the most common cause of data quality problems.
Is the warehouse hosted in the cloud or on our premises?
Either can work. We recommend based on data sensitivity, existing infrastructure and who will operate it, and we document the choice, including backup and recovery arrangements, before building.
