Reporting SoftwareDevelopment

A reporting layer that generates the statements, registers and summaries your business needs, with the right layout every time.

Reporting Software Development: what the work involves

Reports are where software meets the real work of a business. Managers need a stock register by location, a ledger by customer, a month-end summary for the owner and a statement the bank will accept. When the system can only show screens, someone exports to a spreadsheet and reformats it by hand, and each person produces a slightly different version. Time disappears, and so does confidence in the totals.

DevKey builds reporting software to produce each required document exactly as the business needs it. We catalogue the reports, define their parameters and calculations, and build them as repeatable queries with consistent headers, totals and page breaks. Users filter, preview, print or export to PDF and spreadsheet, scheduled reports arrive by email, and access follows roles. Slow reports are tuned or precomputed, so month-end does not wait on a query.

What we build

Core features

01

Report catalogue

Every needed report is listed with its purpose, audience and parameters, giving the business a clear inventory of its information needs.

02

Parameters and filters

Choose date ranges, branches, customers or categories before running, and save favourite combinations for next time.

03

Print-ready layouts

Pixel-accurate PDF output with letterhead, page numbers, grouped sections and totals that match your existing forms.

04

Export and scheduling

Download to spreadsheet or PDF, or schedule a report to arrive by email at a set time to a distribution list.

05

Permissions per report

Restrict sensitive reports to named roles and log who ran and exported them.

06

Performance tuning for large data

Indexes, summary tables and background generation keep reports responsive as the underlying data grows over years.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Reconciling with the old reports

Users compare the new output with what they have used for years. We run both side by side during acceptance and explain every difference, which builds trust before switching.

Definitions hidden in spreadsheets

Old reports often embed undocumented rules. We extract and write them down with the owner, so the calculation is explicit and reviewed rather than copied blindly.

Long-running reports

A report over several years can take minutes. We run those in the background and notify the user when it is ready, instead of letting a browser time out.

Reporting Software Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Can reports match our existing printed formats?

Yes. Bring samples of the forms and statements you use today, and we reproduce the layout, wording and totals in PDF. We then check the figures against a past period before you rely on them.

Can reports be built on top of our current system?

Often. If we can read its database or API, we can build a reporting layer beside it, which avoids touching the live application. We assess access and data structure during discovery to confirm.

Can people create their own reports?

A guided report builder can let trained users choose fields, filters and groupings within limits we set. Complex or audited reports are better built by us once, so everyone gets identical, checked results.

Will reports slow down our main software?

They should not. Heavy queries can run against a replica or a summary store, and large reports are generated in the background. We test with realistic data volumes before handing the reports over.
