Intranet SoftwareDevelopment

An internal home page where staff find people, policies and forms, and where company news reaches everyone who needs it.

Intranet Software Development: what the work involves

As a company grows past a few dozen people, internal information fragments. Policies live in email attachments, the staff list is a spreadsheet nobody updates, and announcements are lost in chat groups. New joiners ask the same questions, managers answer them repeatedly, and requests for leave, equipment or access arrive in whatever format the sender prefers. An intranet gives the organisation one trusted place for what everyone should know and do.

DevKey builds intranets around what your staff do every week. We set up sign-in with your company accounts, a searchable directory, policy and document libraries with version control, and an announcement feed with acknowledgement for important notices. Common requests become short forms that route to the approver and track status. Content owners edit pages without a developer, and permissions can vary by department or location.

What we build

Core features

01

Staff directory and org chart

Search by name, role, department or skill, see reporting lines and contact details, and keep them current from HR records.

02

Policy and document library

Versioned handbooks, SOPs and forms with owners and review dates, so people always open the current document.

03

Announcements with acknowledgement

Post news by audience and require confirmation of reading for safety notices and policy changes, with a report of who has not yet read.

04

Request and approval forms

Leave, equipment, access and reimbursement requests follow a defined route with status visible to the requester.

05

Role-based content

Departments, locations and management levels see the pages that are relevant to them and nothing they should not.

06

Search across everything

A single search box finds people, pages and documents, which is often the feature staff value most once the content is in.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Content ownership

Intranets decay when nobody owns the pages. We assign owners and review dates to each document, and flag stale content to them before staff notice it is out of date.

Single sign-on and offboarding

Access should follow employment. We connect to your identity provider where possible so a leaver loses access immediately, and log who viewed sensitive documents.

Reaching non-desk staff

Factory and field employees may only have a phone. We design mobile-first pages and can deliver notices by message, so critical information does not depend on a desktop.

Intranet Software Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Can staff sign in with their company email accounts?

Yes, if your organisation uses Google Workspace or Microsoft accounts we can use them for sign-in. That means no new passwords, and removing a person from your directory also removes their access.

Can managers edit content themselves?

Yes. Pages and documents have owners who can edit through a simple editor with no code. Changes can require approval, and previous versions remain available if something needs to be restored.

Can we run leave and request forms through it?

Yes. Forms can route to a manager or department, notify the requester of the outcome and write to HR records. For full leave balances and payroll, it can link to your HR system.

Will it work on phones?

Yes. Pages are responsive and the most-used items, such as the directory and announcements, are optimised for small screens. Push or message alerts can be added for urgent notices to shift staff.
