Legal Case Management SoftwareDevelopment

Matters, hearing dates, documents and fees in one system, so no adjournment is missed and no hour of work goes unbilled.

Legal Case Management Software Development: what the work involves

A law practice runs on dates and documents. Every matter has a court, a bench, a next hearing, a bundle of filings and a client who wants to know what happened today. When hearing dates live in personal diaries and files sit on several laptops, an adjournment is missed or a clerk appears at the wrong court. Time spent on drafting and appearances is rarely recorded, so fees are estimated rather than earned.

DevKey builds case software around the matter. Each matter links parties, court details, related cases, tasks and a document folder, while a shared cause list shows tomorrow's hearings for every lawyer. Hearing outcomes are logged with the next date, and reminders reach the responsible advocate and clerk. Time entries and expenses roll into fee notes, and clients can see a plain-language status on a private link.

What we build

Core features

01

Matter register

Parties, opposing counsel, court, case number, stage and related proceedings are held on one record per matter.

02

Hearing diary and cause list

A calendar of next dates for every lawyer, with a daily cause list printable for the clerk and reminders before each hearing.

03

Outcome and order log

After each appearance, record what happened, the order passed and the next date, building a readable history of the case.

04

Document bundle storage

Pleadings, evidence, orders and correspondence are stored per matter, searchable by name and version, with controlled access.

05

Time, expenses and fee notes

Log hours and disbursements as work happens, then generate fee notes by matter or retainer with the supporting entries.

06

Client status link

Give each client a private view of the case stage, next date and shared documents, without them phoning the office.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Privilege and confidentiality

Client files are privileged. We restrict matters to the team assigned, log document access and design backups and exports so confidential material is not widely copied.

Conflict checks

Before accepting a matter, a firm must know whether it has acted for the other side. We index all parties across matters so a search surfaces possible conflicts at intake.

Court information is not automatic

Most courts do not offer a public data feed we can rely on. Hearing dates are entered by staff, and any import from a court website is added only where one is stable.

Legal Case Management Software Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Can it remind us of hearing dates?

Yes. Each next date creates reminders for the assigned lawyer and clerk by email or message, at intervals you choose, and a daily cause list gathers the next day's hearings in one printable page.

Can clients log in to see their case?

A client view can show stage, next date and documents you choose to share, behind a private login. Internal notes and privileged working papers remain hidden unless you deliberately release them.

How are fees and time recorded?

Lawyers log time or fixed-fee milestones against a matter, add expenses, and the system assembles a fee note you can edit before sending. Retainers and payments are matched to what is billed.

Can we bring in our existing case list?

Yes. We import from spreadsheets or registers, map columns to matter fields and review exceptions with your team. Scanned files can be attached to matters in bulk once folder naming is agreed.
