Fleet Tracking AppDevelopment

See where every vehicle is, how it was driven and when it is late, from a phone in your pocket rather than a call to the driver.

Fleet Tracking App Development: what the work involves

Owners of delivery vans, buses and company cars usually learn about problems after they happen: a vehicle idling for hours, a route that was not followed, fuel that vanished. Calling drivers does not scale beyond a handful of vehicles, and spreadsheets only record what the driver chooses to report.

We build a tracking app that ingests location from GPS hardware or from the driver's phone, stores trips as time-series data in PostgreSQL, and presents them as a live map plus reports. Geofences raise alerts on entry or exit, speed and idling thresholds flag behaviour, and maintenance reminders follow mileage. Managers use the app; drivers get a simple companion with trip start and stop.

What we build

Core features

01

Live map view

All vehicles on one map with status colours for moving, idle and offline, and a tap to see the driver, speed and last update time.

02

Trip history and replay

Select a vehicle and a day to replay the actual path, with stops, durations and distance covered.

03

Geofence alerts

Draw zones such as depots, customer sites or restricted areas, and receive a notification when a vehicle enters or leaves.

04

Driver behaviour events

Harsh braking, speeding and long idling are detected from motion data and summarised per driver over a week.

05

Maintenance scheduling

Service, oil change and document-expiry reminders are triggered by distance travelled or dates, with a log of work done.

06

Fuel and mileage reports

Distance, idle time and fuel entries combine into reports that highlight vehicles using more than their peers.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Driver privacy and consent

Tracking a person is sensitive. Phone-based tracking needs clear consent, defined working hours and a visible indicator, both for store approval and for staff trust.

Hardware variety

GPS trackers speak different protocols. We pick one or two supported devices up front rather than promise compatibility with every box found in the market.

Data volume and battery

Frequent location points create a lot of data and drain phones. Adaptive sampling, based on speed and movement, keeps storage and battery in check.

Fleet Tracking App Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Do I need GPS hardware in every vehicle?

Not necessarily. Hardware trackers are more reliable and survive a driver switching off the phone, while phone tracking is cheaper to start. Many fleets use trackers for assets and phones for light vehicles.

How often does the position update?

Typically every few seconds while moving and far less when parked, depending on the tracker or phone settings. More frequent updates give smoother maps but cost more in data and battery.

Can reports be exported for accounts or clients?

Yes. Trip, mileage and stop reports can be exported to PDF or spreadsheet, and scheduled by email, which is useful when clients want proof of service visits.

Does it work offline?

Drivers' phones store points while out of coverage and upload them when the signal returns. The live map will show the last known position until then, flagged as offline.
