Live Score AppDevelopment

During a match, fans refresh a score every few seconds. An app that is late by half a minute has already lost to a rival that is not.

Live Score App Development: what the work involves

A live score app delivers results and commentary the moment something happens: a wicket, a goal, a rain delay. The business problem is speed and accuracy under heavy, spiky traffic. Everyone opens the app at the same instant, during the final over of a close game, and the system must neither slow down nor show a wrong number.

DevKey builds live score apps with a data ingestion layer that takes feeds from a licensed provider or from your own scorers, and pushes updates to phones over WebSockets or Firebase. Match alerts go out through FCM and APNs. For local tournaments we add a scorer app so volunteers can enter ball-by-ball data from the ground, with the public app showing it within seconds.

What we build

Core features

01

Ball-by-ball and event updates

Scorecards, commentary and event timelines that update in place without full refreshes, so the screen never jumps while a fan is reading.

02

Match alerts and followed teams

Fans pick teams or matches and receive pushes for starts, wickets, goals, milestones and results, with settings to keep volume under control.

03

Scorer mode for local matches

A fast data-entry screen for volunteers with undo, correction and offline queueing, since grounds rarely have reliable signal.

04

Fixtures, tables and statistics

Upcoming matches, league standings, top scorers and player pages calculated from the same event data, so numbers always agree.

05

Multi-sport data model

A flexible structure that handles cricket innings, football halves and other formats without separate apps for each sport.

06

Widgets and lock-screen tracking

Home-screen widgets and live activities on iOS and ongoing notifications on Android that show the score without opening the app.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Data licensing and latency

Professional feeds are licensed and priced by sport and delay. We help you compare providers and design for their update rhythm instead of promising instant scores you cannot legally receive.

Traffic spikes

Traffic arrives in bursts at key moments. Caching, fan-out through a message broker and load testing before a major tournament keep the service up when it matters.

Notification volume and battery

Too many alerts drive uninstalls, and constant polling drains batteries. Push-driven updates and sensible limits keep fans informed without annoying them.

Live Score App Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Where does the score data come from?

Either a licensed data provider for professional matches, or your own scorers entering events through a scorer app for local games. We build the ingestion for whichever source you choose and can combine both.

How fast are updates?

Speed depends mostly on the source. With push delivery over sockets, the app can show an event within a couple of seconds of receiving it, but a delayed provider feed will delay your app equally.

Can volunteers score a local match from a phone?

Yes. The scorer mode is built for fast entry and queues events offline when the ground has no signal, syncing and fixing order as soon as a connection returns.

Will the app cope with a big final?

We design for spikes using caching, broadcast channels and load testing against expected peak users, then monitor closely during major fixtures so capacity can be raised in advance.
