Tour Guide AppDevelopment
A visitor standing in front of a fort wants the story right now, in their language, with no signal. A tour app delivers it without a human guide.
Tour Guide App Development: what the work involves
A tour guide app turns a phone into a companion for a museum, heritage site, city walk or mountain trail. The business problem is experience and reach. Human guides are limited by time and language, brochures are forgotten, and remote destinations in the north have little connectivity, so visitors leave without hearing half of what makes the place worth seeing.
DevKey builds tour apps with offline maps, audio narration and illustrated stops that begin automatically as the visitor approaches a point of interest, using GPS or Bluetooth beacons indoors. Content is downloaded before the visit, and a simple admin lets tourism teams add stops, languages and routes. Optional booking, tickets and local business listings turn the guide into a revenue channel.
Core features
Offline maps and routes
Downloadable maps, walking and driving routes and points of interest that work in valleys and old cities with no coverage.
Audio guides and rich stops
Narration, photos, short videos and historical notes for each stop, with transcripts and playback that continues in a pocket.
Location-triggered content
Stories that start when the visitor reaches a point, using GPS outdoors and beacons or QR codes inside buildings.
Multiple languages
Urdu, English, Chinese, Arabic and others, selectable on the first screen, with locally recorded narration where possible.
Tickets, bookings and local listings
Buy entry tickets, book guides or transport, and discover recommended restaurants and crafts, supporting local businesses.
Content management and analytics
Tourism teams edit stops and routes, publish seasonal tours and see which stops draw attention and where visitors drop off.
What we get right before launch
Content accuracy and sensitivity
Heritage narratives need historians and local custodians to review. We build an approval workflow so every story is checked before visitors hear it.
Indoor positioning and battery
GPS fails inside buildings, and beacons need installation. We choose the lightest approach that works per site, and limit continuous location use to protect phone batteries.
Download size and storage
Audio and maps add up. Per-tour downloads, compressed media and wifi-at-hotel prompts keep installation size small for visitors with limited storage and data.

Common questions, answered
Will the guide work without internet?
Yes. Visitors download a tour before arriving, including maps and audio, and the app triggers stories using the phone's GPS. Only booking and live updates need a connection.
Can stories play automatically at each location?
Yes. Outdoors we use geofences around each stop, and indoors we use Bluetooth beacons or QR codes. Visitors can switch automatic playback off if they prefer to choose stops themselves.
Can our team update content without developers?
Yes. A content panel lets staff add stops, replace audio, translate text and publish routes, and the changes reach the app the next time visitors download or sync the tour.
Can the app sell tickets and experiences?
Yes. Tickets, guided add-ons and local tours can be sold in the app with cards, wallets or Stripe for foreign visitors, with QR tickets that staff scan at the gate.
