Software for Nawabshah's Sugar Mills

A Sindh sugar mill depends on thousands of separate growers choosing to deliver to its gate. We build the field, parchi and settlement systems that make that relationship run cleanly.

The trade, and what it needs from software

Nawabshah, also known as Shaheed Benazirabad, is a sugarcane district in central Sindh, and its mills compete with neighbours for the cane that growers decide to deliver. Because supply comes from many independent farmers, often with different landholding sizes and credit arrangements, the mill's relationship with growers is as important as its machinery.

That relationship runs on a paper trail of purchase slips, field visits, advances and settlements. When the paper trail is orderly, growers trust the mill and deliver steadily; when it is not, they look elsewhere. DevKey works remotely from Islamabad and designs systems around how Sindh mills handle cane purchase and grower support.

How it runs

How the work flows in Nawabshah

01

Field staff manage the cane supply

Before the season, the mill's cane-development team surveys fields, records expected cane and agrees delivery arrangements with growers, who may also receive seed, inputs or advances.

02

Delivery is scheduled by turn slip

Growers are given a turn, called a parchi, to bring cane to the mill. Queues, vehicle types and cutting labour all influence whether the cane arrives fresh and on schedule.

03

By-products are sold separately

Sugar, molasses and bagasse are sold under different contracts. Some mills also use bagasse as fuel, so by-product and plant records overlap in ways the accounts team has to follow.

Common problems

Where things go wrong today

Field surveys on paper that never reach the gate

Expected cane quantities recorded by field staff are rarely compared with actual deliveries, so planning for the crushing schedule rests on rough guesses.

Turn slips that cause arguments in the queue

When turns are issued by hand, favouritism is suspected whether or not it exists. Disputes at the gate waste time and spoil goodwill.

Advances and inputs that are hard to reconcile

Seed, fertiliser and cash advances given across the year must be deducted at settlement. Different officers keep different records, and the final figure is argued over.

Delayed settlement information for growers

Growers wait for payments without knowing the status, and they travel to the mill office repeatedly to ask.

What we build

Software that fixes it

A phone app for field staff

Field officers record surveys, input issues and visits on their phones with location, so expected cane is comparable with what actually arrives.

Agriculture App Development

A transparent turn and gate system

Turn slips are issued from a shared queue that growers and gate staff can both see, which reduces suspicion and shortens waiting times.

Field Service Management Software Development

A portal for grower statements

Each grower sees deliveries, deductions and payment status in one place, which reduces trips to the mill and gives accounts staff fewer repeat queries.

Vendor Portal Development

Management dashboards for the season

Expected versus delivered cane, daily crushing and dispatch are summarised for the owner in simple dashboards instead of manual daily reports.

Nawabshah FAQ

Common questions, answered

Do growers need smartphones?

Not necessarily. Statements and turn information can also be shared by SMS or printed, with the portal as an extra for those who prefer it. The system should serve the grower who is not tech-comfortable too.

Can field staff use it in areas with weak coverage?

Yes. The field app saves entries locally and uploads them when the phone reaches a signal, so survey work does not stop in remote fields.

Can we keep our current accounting package?

Usually yes. We aim to connect to what you already use and avoid forcing a full replacement unless it is the right decision for you.

Can you support a mill in Sindh from Islamabad?

Yes. Our work is remote by design. We run walk-throughs by video, test with your staff and visit when a hands-on session at the mill makes a real difference.
