Community AppDevelopment
Members drift when information lives in ten WhatsApp groups. A community app brings notices, people and events into one place you control.
Community App Development: what the work involves
Community apps serve groups with shared membership: housing societies, alumni networks, professional bodies, mosques, clubs and neighbourhoods. The business problem is coordination. Announcements get buried in chat, dues are tracked in spreadsheets and nobody can find the right person, so engagement and revenue both leak away.
DevKey builds these apps around a membership model with roles, a directory, a notice board, event handling and discussion spaces. The app is built in Flutter or React Native with a Supabase or Node.js backend. Admins publish and approve from a web panel while members get targeted push notifications instead of a noisy broadcast to everyone.
Core features
Membership and roles
Join by invite or approval, with roles for admins, committee members and ordinary members that control who can post, approve or see which section.
Searchable member directory
Members appear with the details they choose to share, so people can find a plumber, a doctor or a fellow graduate without asking in a chat.
Notice board with targeting
Announcements go to everyone, a block, a committee or a custom group, with read receipts so admins know what was actually seen.
Events and RSVP
Create events, collect RSVPs, add calendar entries and send reminders, with attendance records for later reporting.
Discussion spaces and polls
Topic-based threads and polls for decisions such as maintenance votes, with one-member-one-vote controls where needed.
Dues and contribution tracking
Record or collect subscriptions and contributions through local wallets and cards, with statements members can open themselves.
What we get right before launch
Admin workload and moderation
A community fades if admins are overwhelmed. We design approval queues, delegated roles and templates so running the app is lighter than running the old chat groups.
Privacy inside a closed group
Members share phone numbers and addresses with neighbours, not the world. Visibility controls, export limits and clean offboarding of former members are essential.
Adoption across age groups
Older members may resist new apps. Simple navigation, large text, Urdu support and fallback SMS or WhatsApp notices help include everyone.

Common questions, answered
Why not just keep using WhatsApp groups?
Groups work until they do not: messages get lost, everyone sees everything and there is no record. An app adds roles, targeted notices, searchable history and payments, while still linking to chat where that helps.
Can the app collect membership fees?
Yes. We integrate JazzCash, Easypaisa and card payments locally, or Stripe for overseas members, and give admins a ledger showing who has paid and who is outstanding.
Can different groups see different content?
Yes. Content can be targeted by block, committee, membership type or custom group, so each member sees what is relevant to them.
How much does a community app cost?
Cost depends on the number of modules, the payment and verification needs and how much admin tooling you want. Starting with notices, directory and events is a sensible lean launch.

Messaging looks simple until a message arrives twice, never arrives, or arrives after the phone was asleep for an hour. We engineer for those cases.
