EV Charging AppDevelopment

An electric driver needs to know three things before leaving home: where a working charger is, whether it is free, and how to pay. We make all three one tap.

EV Charging App Development: what the work involves

An EV charging app connects drivers to charging stations and gives operators a way to run and bill them. The business problem is reliability. A driver who arrives at a charger that is faulty, occupied or wrongly listed loses trust fast, and operators need clear visibility of uptime, energy delivered and revenue across every connector they own.

DevKey builds charging apps on top of OCPP-compliant charge point management systems, so the app talks to chargers from different manufacturers. Drivers see stations on a map, check live connector status, start and stop a session by scanning a QR code, and pay by wallet or card. Operators get a dashboard for tariffs, faults, sessions and settlements.

What we build

Core features

01

Station map and live status

Chargers on a map with connector type, power rating, availability and amenities, refreshed from the charging back end instead of a stale list.

02

Scan to start and stop

QR scanning at the charger begins a session, with live kilowatt-hours, cost and estimated time, and a clear stop button.

03

Reservations and queue alerts

Hold a connector for a short window or get notified when an occupied charger frees up, reducing wasted trips.

04

Payments and wallet

Per-kilowatt-hour or time-based tariffs paid through cards, local wallets or prepaid balance, with itemised invoices for each session.

05

Operator console

Fault alerts, remote start and stop, tariff changes and downloadable settlement reports across every site and connector.

06

Trip and charge planning

Route-aware suggestions that show charging stops along a journey based on connector compatibility and the vehicle's range.

Planned for

What we get right before launch

Charger protocol compatibility

OCPP versions and vendor quirks vary, so each charger model needs testing. We validate against real hardware or a vendor simulator before promising a connector list.

Grid and power limits

Sites have limited electrical capacity, and Pakistani grids are unreliable. Load balancing and graceful handling of power cuts mid-session prevent billing disputes and stuck connectors.

Session billing integrity

Meter values can arrive late or out of order. We reconcile energy readings server-side and handle interrupted sessions fairly so invoices stand up to questions.

EV Charging App Development FAQ

Common questions, answered

Which chargers can the app control?

Any charger that speaks OCPP through a central system we connect to. We confirm the exact models and firmware first, as manufacturers implement the protocol slightly differently.

What happens if the power fails during a charge?

The session closes with the last verified meter reading, the driver is billed only for energy delivered, and the connector status resets. We test these interruptions explicitly because outages are common.

Can we offer both free and paid charging?

Yes. Tariffs can be set per station, per time of day or per customer group, including free sessions for hotel guests or staff, with separate reporting for each.

Can drivers from other networks use our chargers?

Roaming is possible through agreements and protocols such as OCPI, but it is a business arrangement as much as a technical one. We usually launch on your own network first.
